About a month ago, I had one of those moments where God’s conviction stabs you right in the gut. Our Wednesday night student worship had an ever increasing number of neighborhood kids showing up … which seemed great, but began leading to behavior issues. Some students were showing up just for basketball and food while distracting others from focused worship. My snap judgement was to eliminate basketball and food (to get rid of those coming just for those reasons) and focus on what matters most … which is worshipping God. I pridefully made these changes while thinking “how great a Christian I am.” Thankfully, some devoted student ministry workers and God grabbed my heart with the message “Isn’t one of the main jobs of Christians to minister to the lost?” Yes, some of these kids are disrespectful and may come for the wrong reasons, but Jesus died on the cross for them just as He did for me. Our responsibility is to show them God’s love and present the gospel. God has actually made it easy for us. We don’t have to go and look for non-Christians to bring to church because He just laid 30 to 40 right on our doorstep each week! If you don’t have a ministry on Wednesday nights from 5:45-7:30pm, I encourage you to come over and help fulfill God’s great commission by loving on some great kids.
