Summer. What a wonderful season the Lord gave us when He made summer. Swimming pools, sunscreen, baseball, fireworks, vacations to the beach and other fun places…. summer. Summer is also a super busy time in preschool and children’s ministry, with church camps and Vacation Bible School both landing in summer time. On my end, I spend months planning for the summer events. And the thing is, I thought when I was a kid that summer went by too fast, but now as an adult, I KNOW it goes by too fast. All you have to do is blink and it’s mid-July it seems. Now when I go to get groceries I see school supplies and lists on display, and I think “wasn’t it just the end of school?” As we approach the time of the year where we shift back into school mode, I wanted to highlight some things that are coming your way in preschool and children’s ministry.
Promotion Sunday will take place on Sunday August 6th. This will be the day that we “move up” in our LifeGroup classes (i.e. if your child was in first grade this past year they will move to second grade). This is an exciting time and it always seems to be a time of refresh and renewal. Third, our Wednesday nights in the Fall will see our RA’s and GA’s learning about mission work and engaging in mission work here locally. Children’s Choir will also begin again toward the end of September. I am excited to see what the rest of summer brings us, and I know the school year will be so much fun.
As we approach the school year and promotion Sunday, you’ll notice another change in the way we operate. We have updated the safety and security policies and procedures for preschool and children’s ministry. I take this very seriously, and I hope you will join me in the effort to make sure our kiddos always have a safe environment to experience church. Pastor Nick and I, along with my trusty assistant Katelyn, have revamped the safety manual. This includes updated information for check in procedures, emergency information, and other helpful items. The goal is to have everyone, from Pastoral staff, to volunteers, to parents be on the same page. My promise to you is that one of my greatest concerns is that your child, and the rest of my church kids, are always safe. This will be a big step forward in ensuring that they will be!
I hope that the rest of your summer is a wonderful time with your family, and that the school year is the best one yet.
