On the afternoon of May 17, 2003, I distinctly recall something my uncle said to me that resonated in my soul. I was sitting in a rocking chair, taking a quick break from the reception after Kristin and I had just been married a few hours earlier. At the time Kristin and I were married, I was half way through law school and was preparing to be a law clerk that summer for an attorney. Although entering the practice of law was very much in sight, my uncle said to me (out of the blue), “Nick, I think you’re going to be a pastor someday.” Vocally, I said, “Well, we’ll see what the Lord does.” Internally, I sensed he was right. Someday, I felt I would be in pastoral ministry, and my soul said, “Me too!”
I cannot help but marvel at the sovereignty of our Holy God. As my uncle uttered those words, only the Lord, in His perfect plan, knew that the church where I would enter full-time vocational ministry was the one we had just left! Needless to say, I believe as Corrie ten Boom said, “God does not have any problems, only plans.” We praise God for His plan of bringing our family to First Baptist Gallatin!
On behalf of the Tidwell family, please accept our sincerest “THANK YOU” for the kindness and warm welcome extended to us on Sunday, January 8. It was wonderful seeing many of you we knew from years past, and we were blessed to meet many new faces. It was a special day for our family, and we are overjoyed to join you all in furtherance of His kingdom.
In the days ahead, I will look forward to learning how the church is already serving and to getting to know staff, deacons, volunteers, Life Group leaders, and the congregation. Most importantly, I look forward to growing closer to Christ together. By studying God’s Word and being diligent in prayer together, I am confident God’s Holy Spirit will guide us in His ways to reach our community, our country, and our world with the Good News of Jesus.
We believe great days are ahead, and we look forward expectantly to being part of the Lord’s journey for His glory! May our lights shine brightly for Him!
Onward and upward for Jesus,
